Cycling Art

I have a long history of cycling art, as you'll see below. Every few years I do a series of illustrations covering the Tour de France. I was a collegiate cyclist and I still love (watching) bike racing. Click on the illustrations below for larger pictures.

Tour de France 2023

Part of my series on the Tour de France, the 2023 series focused on the winners during their moment of victory.

Tour de France 2020

They made it happen in 2020, somehow! This series of illustrations features slightly more abstract, up-close focus and bright, primary colors.

An illustration for Trek for the Tour, as part of a job application process.

Tour de France 2018

I went to three days of the 2018 Tour de France, which was super fun and exciting (and only days after the French won the World Cup). Below are some travel-style posters I made to commemorate the race days.

Tour de France 2016

During the 2016 Tour de France, I drew a picture of each day of the race for my art Instagram @joanisart. Just having fun with different art styles.

Bikin' Around Chicago

In 2010 I briefly did a series for the Chicago website Gapers Block that featured biking tips. I was moving from Chicago to Brooklyn at the time, and the series didn't last long as other priorities took over. Both comics are collected in the page linked below!
